A self-care tool that can improve your life.
I began creating tools for my life when I became a Life Coach. It totally freed me. I used to find myself in the same critical situation over and over and over again. UNTIL I began creating tools for myself. This one is particularly necessary for my emotional health as the CEO of a fast-moving startup. Do you have a life that feels overwhelming? This tool will help you.
The most important thing I do every day.
Every day I ask myself these two questions. I miss some days. But I pay for it. So, I try for every day. It’s not a fancy morning ritual, but it is sacred to me. And it makes all the difference in my day- and then in my life.
Show-up shame.
We’ve all been there. We decide to be truthful. We decide to be seen. We decide to show up in a way that our heart is asking.
And then cue the shame. That fucking guy. Ready to tell us that we should have never opened our mouths and we should just ‘go with the flow’ and not make any waves.
But we must show up for ourselves. Here’s why and here’s what to do when you feel Show Up Shame.
How you show up today is how you show up everyday.
How am I showing up in my life? With excitement. Determination. Hope. How about you?
Wow it was a crazy year.
Hey 2018, you were a wild ride. Hi 2019, I’m excited to know you. Here’s my recap on my year, including what’s in store for Cleveland Flea in 2019.
I don't check email until the afternoon. Here's why.
Before I did self-coaching around it, my inbox represented to me:
all the ways in which I was failing people by not getting back to them immediately
my lack of control over my inbox (why couldn’t I just keep it at zero!?)
my inability to organize properly
people’s disappointment in me (emails are just sitting there unanswered, “just like what people expect from me”)
My inability to time manage perfectly– all the stuff I never had time to get to
A general feeling of “You’re doing it wrong”
Now, it’s a joy to check. Today I’m sharing how I found love for my messy inbox AND began to clean up my act.
Running a business is what taught me how to run a business.
How did I build a powerful, profitable, purposeful business? How did I take an idea and shape a city with it? How did I engineer millions of dollars into our local economy? How did I learn to run a very challenging, high-stakes, highly-volatile business?
Find out + then use that insight to make your own mark. You’ve got this.
2-hour rule. AKA everything takes double the amount of time you think it will.
Everything takes me longer than I think it will. Double, usually.
So, why do I continue to think things will take less time?
My BOSS AF planning method. AKA how I deal with the fact that I can never actually plan anything and it makes me want to give up on life.
Here’s how you still get shit done when super annoying life interrupts you.
Especially because & in spite of. (aka, how to follow your heart)
A very quick guide to following your heart.
One thought I worked on for all of 2018.
I’ve been a Life Coach for going on 3 years. It’s hard to believe! Even life coaches have fucked up thoughts that don’t serve them and even life coaches have their own coaches and have to deal with their own limiting beliefs and thoughts. I worked on one fundamental thought this year, day after day after day. Moment by moment.
What the universe is trying to tell me right now.
Do you pay attention to your life?
I used to miss the whispers until they became shouts, pushing me into precarious situations that probably could have been avoided had I been paying more attention to my heart.
Nevertheless, I’m grateful for that learning. All those stumbles and falls and heartbreak.
They brought me to a place of learning, understanding and listening to my heart, above all else. Despite all else.
So, what is it telling me now?
The number one reason most people don't chase their dreams.
The number one reason people don’t chase their big goals?
They’re scared of how they will feel.
3 reasons to narrow your niche.
When you create for the wrong people:
You never get better at what YOU like doing
You begin to resent your business
You don’t like the work and it makes it really really hard to deal with the tough stuff that inevitably comes up
You find it hard to explain why you’re different than others because your heart isn’t in it and you aren’t getting better
You are not your own boss
You’re not creating a distinguishable brand that gets more distinguishable over time
How can you avoid this? Narrow your niche!
Making it work in your new creative business.
The pressures of business will kill your creativity. More than likely if your business is growing, and you want it to continue to deliver you more money, it will require you manage your mind more effectively to continue liking it. And for it to continue delivering to you.
Should you even run a creative business? Are you in the middle of believing it’ll never work? This post is for you.
The importance of time away from work.
Shifting from overcommitted CEO to being on break took my emotions on a wild ride, and here’s how I dealt with it.
When you've got a big ship, you're going to need a crew.
Do you wonder if it’s time to hire? Do you have limiting beliefs that make it hard for you to get to a clear answer? Are you someone who wants to join a creative startup? Today, I’m sharing my journey to hiring (and continuing to choose) a creative crew.
When you’ve got a big ship, you definitely need a crew. But are you ready?
Closet Makeover!
I recently finished a Virtual Closet Makeover with my friend Shira Gill. It really did change my life!
Take a look and see how you can also do this in your own life!
Give yourself credit.
How often are we not surrounded by work that could be done, clothes that should be folded, unread emails in our inboxes, conversations that were left on an unclear note, bodies that might do well to get a workout, books that are half-finished and untidiness in various corners of our lives?
So, amid all the work and untidiness of it all, how do I find happiness? I’m sharing that will you all today.
Before you scroll any further... Hi! I'm Steph Sheldon, a content architect and creative director currently calling Chicago home, though my journey has taken me from 15 years in Cleveland to an 18-month adventure in Turkey.
My world revolves around designing and producing websites filled with content that's not just seen but felt. With a background in architecture, a knack for DIY, the experience of founding a fast-growth startup, and a heart dedicated to business coaching, I dive into photography as my personal escape and expression.
My greatest joy comes from helping people—especially women founders—uncover and express their true selves online and through their digital products, peeling away the layers of social conditioning that have kept their authentic selves hidden. I'm honored you've stepped into my digital home and studio, a place where creativity meets business in a dance designed just for you.
As someone who believes creativity is not just a talent but a fundamental human right, I see our creative blocks as the result of a world that hasn't always welcomed our brilliance. Here, loving our uniqueness is our strength, while the pressure to conform has too often dimmed our individual lights in exchange for safety in numbers. But it's our differences that make us thrive.
So, I invite you to dive into the blog or sign up for a creative consultation. Let's work together to break free from what's holding you back and move towards the work that's always been meant for you.
