Skincare edit– here's what I took with me when I moved around the world.
Here’s the thing about me– I LOVE a theme. Seaside Skincare? Let’s DO IT.
I am a girl who loves a theme. I am also a girl who loves to part with things and then get all new things. So, I ditched (mostly) everything I’d be using and dreamt about swimming in the sea during the day and nourishing my skin with citrus-scented oils at night. I thought about bronzed skin and the salty sea air.
Then, I shook myself out of my dream state and go to work filling my toiletry bag with what I’d need to take with me.
First up, I am not an expert on skincare. So, I headed over to SLFMKR where Cait knows all things natural skincare, because that’s important to me. I don’t want to have to be an expert on all the things. And what I didn’t find there, I consulted my friends (Leslie + Meg) who are both super into all the new products and who each gave killer recommendations.
Here’s what I packed in my bag–
Makeup
Ilia (I’d actually been using this for about a year, and I really like it)
Skin Serum for everyday use
Multi-stick
Liquid Eye Shadow
Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50
Vapour Luminious Foundation Stick- I use this for concealer actually. It’s super light.
Glossier Balm Dotcom for a little color on the lips
Benefit Bad Gal Mascara (I have super sensitive eyes so I just pick something that doesn’t irritate my eyes)
Kosas Air Brow– for that boy brow perfection
Cleansing / Toning / Exfoliating / Protecting
Osea Ocean-Cleansing Mudd (this is perfect for morning / daytime face washings because it’s so fresh and tingly and minty) and it just wakes your senses up!
Osea Anti-Aging Sea Serum (your girl loves a theme, remember?). I try to remember to use this every night.
Berlin Skin Geranium + Rose Toner– it just really smells G O O D and I feel luxurious going to bed with it on my face
Moon Juice Acid Potion– I use this 1x a week to exfoliate my skin
Ren Overnight Glow Sleeping Cream (I use this every night after I wash my face)
This seems like a lot to pack, and honestly one of the things I want in my life is to not wear makeup except that I also have been really enjoying the creative process of it. I was in such a funk with my skin and makeup for so long (I’ve always had ‘bad skin’ in my own opinion) that now that I have these beautiful products that also smell amazing I’m actually having fun rather than only thinking about how these things ‘perfect’ or ‘fix’ me.
I see makeup and skincare as fun, creative, self-care these days, which is really a fun thing. I also love that I don’t have extra products lying around that I don’t use. I use everything that I have and I think that’s due to the fact that I got rid of all the stuff that wasn’t working / I wasn’t using and instead committed to a totally new regimen. It feels great to use what I have. There’s no Sephora or Target here so I’m really ‘stuck’ with what I brought with me and I actually love that. Maybe because I can’t just run out and get whatever, I get to be more creative with and committed to what I do have.
