Maximize all the online courses / coaching programs you're in.

It’s much easier to purchase programs than it is to actually take them and get value from them. Here’s a strategy that helps me stay organized and plan time to be focused on each course / class.

Anyone else sign up for some really cool e-courses during pandemic? 👋🏻

Anyone else only 2% through those courses? 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

Yeah, thought so.

Well, here’s a bit of a strategy that I had to develop so that I could get through all this learning so that I’d actually be able to start putting that learning to practice in business and life.

HOW TO ACTUALLY GET THROUGH YOUR E-COURSES

  • First, it’s time to get honest with yourself about–

    • Your available time

    • Your available energy

    • Your interest

    • Why you’re taking that course

Are you a stay-at-home parent who is also working full time AND trying to have actual time for yourself? Now might not be the time for you to add e-learning to your schedule–especially since you probably need time OFF-SCREEN. That leads me into your energy level. You might be depleted. So, what you need right now might not be extra work. Maybe you need to go outside. Take a walk. Take a bath. Talk to friends. Make some nourishing food. Unless you have extra time + energy just laying around, you will need to take that time and energy from somewhere else. Maybe you don’t need. to binge watch every episode of 5 seasons of The Affair in under two weeks, like I did. Maybe you can take some of that tv time away and allot it to something you really want to do.

That leads me into my next point– DO YOU EVEN WANT TO DO THIS CLASS YOU BOUGHT? Why? If the answer is based in some negative self-evaluation, then it’s possible you’ll avoid that learning. It might be too negative for you to want to do. Make sure you’re doing something like this for a more purposeful (positive) reason. You might even WANT to do this thing. If you don’t, ask yourself why. And, ps, it’s ok for you to NEVER do this class. Yes, even if you spent money on it. It’s still ok for you to let it go. You might even want to gift it to someone who would love it.

  • Now that we’ve established that you WANT to do this thing, let’s talk about how you’re going to do it.

    • Look at your week. Where do you have time available for this? (ps– this is why group-led programs are more effective than individually-led programs —> accountability)

    • Look at the coursework. How long will it take to get through the course? 10 hours? 40 hours?

    • Map it out. Actually put it in your calendar.

    • Stick to it. Obviously there can always be emergencies. But a new episode of The Handmaid’s Tale might not be an emergency. Unless it is, of course. Values, friends.

    • Have FUN. Truly. Remember you’re not doing this to punish yourself. Unless you are. And if you are, maybe just think about that.

Pro-tips–

  • One course at a time. 2 max.

  • Don’t buy a new one until you’ve completed the ones you have.

  • Give the ones away that you know you won’t take.

  • Allow yourself to change your mind.

  • Have fun.

A 3-hour deep dive can be broken up into 2 parts– Coaching + Consulting.

I’d love to help you get the creative results you’re looking for. I offer 3-hour deep dives so we can dig into the problem and emerge with solutions.

I typically break them up into Coaching– “tell me what’s going on and what’s wrong and why you think it’s that way” and Consulting– “now let’s decide what we’re going to do about it.”

Sound intriguing?
